Thank you for your replies and help!
I have - as you can see - managed it!  It has all gone well and my Powerbook
is much lilghter data wise!  It has not cleared the original issue from
which the suggestion came but since I have got around that by buying a
firewire LaCie DVD rewriter from Cancom (which is excellent) I am happy.
