Thanks Jason & Sam Having checked a few files following the transfer I wiped the hard disc on my old G4 - I hope whatever is in there has died a horrible death.
TextWrangler works a peach at getting the text back..and has lifted the veil for me as to what really goes on in Word documents.. Although I get the text , it doen't look like I'm going to get the formating back of some of the newletters I have lost. But we like a learning experience....
