Folks,

please don't laugh when you see the following email from my father...

INITIAL EMAIL BEGINS

Steve -

do you know how I can copy my Photo & Music libraries from my iMac
running OSX 10.5.6 and iPhoto 7.1.5 "backwards" to my G4 Powerbook
running OSX 10.4.6 and iPhoto 5?

I had a major crash on the Powerbook in France and have had to do a
clean install. Nothing is backed up - as the Powerbook is (or was!) a
mirror of my iMac. It would seem that neither iPhoto nor iTunes allows
newer libraries to be used on older software. Neither can you install
the newer software on the Powerbook.

Connecting the two via Firewire copies the libraries OK, but the
Powerbook cannot "see" them. Similarly, I cannot copy the newer
versions of iPhoto & iTunes to the Powerbook.

Any idea?

INITIAL EMAIL ENDS

I suggested that he try the following;

1st SUGGESTION BEGINS

My guess would be that you need to make sure the G4 applications are
properly executed installs - that means using installers disks and not
drag and drops.

I would then have the newer version libraries copied onto the
PowerBook in a folder named 'parking' or something.

Within the new install of iTunes, try going to File>Add to Library.
Browse to the 'parking' folder and see what happens - I'm hoping that
it will recognise the mp3 files as valid assets and copy them into
it's own library structure, allowing you to then throw the 'parking'
folder away.

If it works, do the same with iPhoto.

1st SUGGESTION ENDS

This solution did not work and his older PB doesn't see the images/
audio. Does anybody have any clues as to how I can help possibly the
only Mac user in the world with this problem (my father is a bit like
that, finding unusual challenges for you right when you are at your
busiest)?

Regards
