It sounds as if you reset it all to defaults.


to be honest in this kind of situation teh only thing I've found 
to work is to start all over again. Reset the base station 
fully, choose a diferent network name, different password, do 
the settings and see if that works properly. It always seems 
that fiddling instead of starting again will do the trick but 
fiddling ends up being time-consuming.

But you could just open the Airport Utility and see if it's set 
to password, surely?
