All,

This is part rant and part question...

I had an email from BT the other week to say that my local exchange
was to be upgraded and that I should expect the broadband and phone to
disappear for 10 mins. It didn't really matter because I was going to
be away anyway. I did look forward however to shiny new fast
connection speeds (I usually only get just over 512k).

I'm back now and guess what? My broadband connection speed reminds me
of those dial-up modem days of old. "Slow" doesn't even begin to
describe, and "frustrated" doesn't come close to doing justice. I'm
trying to download the new Imogen Heap album from iTunes and it's been
around an hour so far and I have three tracks. A speed test at
thinkbroadband.com says I'm getting 130k down and 370k up (yes I
stopped the download while I did the speed test. And yes I've switched
the router off and on again).

Anybody any ideas before I give up and consider carrier pigeons or
semaphore? I think I'll probably shoot myself before I get on the
phone to BT.

Phil
