yes -- there is a problem with iPhoto I've seen mention of whereby not only can it lose the photos, it also meticulously removes the TM back-ups! not a joke...I'll try to find the link but in the meantime, hit google for that. And be prepared to back-up your iPhoto library to a completely separate disk that is not connected anywhere when you upgrade and TM first runs. So your DVDs should be ok as a back-up but do check them before you install SL. Frankly, I'd recommend a) TM back-up b) weekly/daily/regular clone of machine (preferably two, alternating) c) back-up of each of the above.
