This afternoon I plugged in the disk I use for TimeMachine backups it wouldn't mount. I decided to restart the mac but when it rebooted the initial Apple logo was replaced by a circle with a diagonal stripe (like NO PARKING signs etc).

Finally managed to reboot by holding down the shift key and watching a short progress bar. When rebooted the mac no longer recognisesthe Airport card saying it isn't mounted. Ran disc utilities and repaired permissions. Also checked the internal drive which appears to be ok.

I have no idea what to do next.
