What fun. Have now discovered that TM has cleared out my entire backup
for the last six months because I replaced the internal disk. I thought
this only happened when you replace the logic board.
That is why the CPU was so busy and getting so hot. So the good news is
that the SSD now seems to work happily. The bad news is that TM is gone.
I DO have a recent back-up of the TM disk from last week (at work) but
am now going to have to work out how to get it to
a) transfer them back to the normal TM disk without messing up other
stuff on that drive (which also holds my iTunes media and other bits and
pieces)
b) work out how to make the MB see it as a TM archive.
Not sure I can face it. Might just freeze the disk I took out and if
things have to be restored, put it back in the macbook.
Moral of the story. Be very careful. Back everything up.
sigh. thanks for listening.
