I understand your apprehension. I have upgraded my iPhone 3G to OS4 and have to reset the phone a good few times a day when it hangs, apps take longer to load or crash, voicemail is erratic, etc.. Not worth it for the improvements to Mail et al. Fortunately, I will be getting a new iPhone 4 soon as my contract is up for renewal so hopefully the upgrade will no longer be an issue post purchase. Good luck but give it some serious thought before taking the upgrade/update plunge.
