I have one with three, (they are the only official uk supplier of
them), it was free as an upgrade to my contract, but i believe they
cost about £50 ish. They are locked to three's network and it is
possible to unlock them with a firmware update, which has the benefit
of adding more features to the web interface, but i haven't done it
yet. Usability wise, they are pretty easy to use, and because they
are wifi they work far happier with macs than the usb dongles do, one
of the reasons for me wanting this is it had to support an old 10.3.x
ibook, and it works a treat whereas i shudder to think of the
nightmares of getting a USB one to work on it. Like all these things
if your signal is good then its good, so research a mobile network
near you who is the strongest. Cost wise they are about £50 ish new
from three, however i see them for sale on ebay unlocked for about £70
which in your situation might be the easiest way to go.

Oh yes, and i think they have a limit of 4 devices using it at once,
but ive never tried more than 2 at a time.
