I met Sam today as I was passing through Brighton, nice to put a face to
your name (and fun to sit amidst uncountable partly dissassembled macs
from the last ten years or so;-)
I mentioned a monitor stand and thought others might be interested. I
recently got one -- they're not cheap but they are superb if you want to
have a monitor that can move, rotate, move into (nearly) every
conceivable position.

they do a range -- I have the Neo-flex one but the LX looks even better.
I had a go with one and they really did seem to do what they claimed
(you could just move them into almost any position quite easily. The
Neoflex is the only one that will go face-down but not many people want
that position...[actually I do, but that's another sotry, and not for a
monitor, but for my iRex iLiad e-reader]
so if you find yourself wanting to reposition the monitor, these are the
way to go (eg if you share one with someone much shorter/higher/want to
tilt to watch films better/etc).
cheers
