here's the funny thing. last night I ordered an LX desk mount from Insight. This morning I get this email:

Since the introduction of chip & pin, we have seen a significant increase in CNP (Card Not Present) fraud.

In order to protect both ourselves and our clients from fraud, we ask that you send copies of two forms of Identification.

This is a _one off requirement_ for new clients only on your first order with Insight. This ID enables us to confirm that you are in fact the card holder.

We accept the following documents;
Utility bills (i.e. Gas, Electricity, Water or Mobile Phone )
Bank/Credit card statements (This can be from 2 different banks)
Council tax bill / Inland Revenue letters
Driving license
/BT phone bill//s/ /and/ /Passport//s/ /are not accepted/

This is to verify the address that the credit card has already verified (the billing address). So I look at the list. I have only a council tax bill somewhere ]maybe] (everything else paperless) and I don't drive. So I am going to have to wait until I get the next gas and electric bill (hey, I shredded the last one *yesterday*, and the last gas last week).

So I ring them up and get the most insane answerphonemessage which went something like this

HellothisisXIamatmydeskbutyoumayfindmyphoneengagedasIwillbeonacallsopleaseleaveamessagebeep

but faster.

I have NEVER heard anyone talk so fast. It's a miracle I could actually make sense of it. So instead of saying "look, this is stupid, I've paid for it, the credit card has passed the money on, why can't you send it?" I went into full "hey, guess what, I'm busy too" sarcasm, told him to record a decent message and said if I had to do all this to get a monitor stand, I'm sure Dell will sell me one.

Within seconds, he forwarded the order with "PLEASE CANCEL" as the subject.
So...it *didn't* cost me about 120 quid.

I think I'll get the one on ebay for 60, and watch out for the news that Insight have gone bust because they pissed off too many people.
