Go inta Address Book and *then* activate TM. You can roll it back to
where it was when it was a full set. Then immediately go into Mobile Me
and tell it not to sync addresses through Mobile me. I think I would
also do the following:
1) check the TM versions are intact.
2) delete all addresses (ie your contacts)
3) make sure it has sync'd (eg wait for a new number to appear as they
re-enter them, to test it
4) tell Mobile me to stop syncing addresses with that (those) iPhones
5) repopulate your Address Book from TM.
6) reset all other (current) devices you have in Mobile me so it has
your restored version as the master copy.
Frankly, I would be tempted to mess with their numbers. Change random
digits in all the new entries, watch them get corrected randomly, then
swap them round so ringing Mama also rings a pizza place or something.
That's not an official SMUG list policy, by the way.
and when you're bored, or if you're not as vindictive as me, tell Mobile
me to remote wipe and or remove it from your list of devices. It might
have to wait until it gets a data signal to pick up the command.
Locking it with a pincode would also be fun.
Come to think of it, maybe the current 'owner' wasn't the actual thief
(but they did a cheap iPhone, they must suspect...)
Are they still on your contract? presumably not.

Hi,
I had my iPhone stolen in Spain, or rather I had a couple stolen in Spain. I
have MobileMe and a message came up the other day when it was synching and i
obviously clicked the wrong the wrong one. Anyway the robbers, or buyer of
robbed iPhone, has been adding contacts and the end result was that i got 40 of
his contacts, including Mama. I sent a message to him via Mobile Me, but I
haven't had a confirm to say that it's been delivered. Unfortunately the Find
my Iphone thing wasn't working.
2 Questions:
1. I don't suppose anyone recognises what country these numbers maybe from?
0672995279
0661552133
0670221642
The names are mostly Arabic, so my guess is it's made it back to North Africa
somewhere maybe. These all seem to be mobile numbers.
2. I need to get my contacts up and running from my Time Machine backup. I just
selected 'import' from the Address Book menu but iI couldn't find where the
details for the contacts were in the Latest backup folder.
I could do with backing everything up too but I'm scared I will wipe the
address contacts. Is it right that Time Machine just copies new files and keeps
a copy of all the old ones?
Sorry for the lengthy email.
All the best,
Michael
