Ah, just re-read your problem. Thats a shame, it definitely should be possible. the mac can usually detect dvi and displayports straight away, but you need to press "detect display" for VGA to show up. Maybe try starting with just the DVI monitor connected then adding them one at a time? the other dvi one first then the vga one.
