Thanks to everyone who replied. I lazily tempted to just wait for Tony
Crooks to complete his research and lig off that, but in the end decided it
was time I stood on my own feet.
FWIW, I considered a Brother HL 2150N 'free' with toner cartridges from IJT,
as recommended by John Hodges; but ended up upselling myself to the slightly
uglier HL-2250DN, because of the duplexer (ie it prints double-sided). (In
fact this was upselling to less money down than the IJT offer, and as I print
so little at home it might have taken me years to break even on that offer.)
I'll let you know if it proves a huge mistake...
