I have just done virtually the same thing - from a 13" MacBook Air to a new 11" 
one. When you first start up the new machine you have the option to transfer 
data from a previous Mac. I used Wi-Fi and it took a while but worked fine. 
Choose the option and you will be presented with an access code to enter on the 
original Mac to make the connection - after that just follow the on-screen 
instructions.
