Hi Sam,
Thanks for replying. The passwords aren't that easy or that secure so I may 
change them. I'm pretty sure the firewall is turned on the Netgear cable router 
(but will double check) and its turned on on the MacBook.
I've never really got my head round all the settings on the router and the 
Stealth mode attempts seem to continue in the last few minutes from the same 
address (having just checked again).
Time to get my head round router firewalls etc I suppose.
