Thanks for replying, Sam. Yes, I have tried home + power for 10 secs.  When
iPad is connected to power adapter nothing shows up on the screen which
makes me suspect that the battery is on the blink. I will have to go to the
Apple store and as you say most things are synced to iTunes, but not I think
Notes - and on that I have a huge list of things to do, books to read,
people to invite to a party, bills to pay - I don't know of anyway of
backing that up Notes, is there one?  We are off on holiday in 3 weeks time
and I was intending to take only the iPad no other books at all, but what a
disaster it would be if the iPad broke while we were away, so now I think I
will pack some paper backs as well.
