It sounds like she's managed to get hooked up to a wireless hotspot of some description. The ones provided by hotels and pubs, etc. typically ask for a sign-in, which is given when you check-in or whatever. Is she using wireless, if so check what AP she's connected to. If she's on a wired connection then get her to turn Airport off and check whether things start working normally.
