Aperture is way more powerful than iPhone in so many ways it's hard to list. 
Whether they are useful to you depends on whether it's worth the extra £45 
(from the App Store?) or £179 pre-installed on your new MacBook.

The main drawback, apart from the fact that it's pricier and more demanding, is 
that it doesn't make calendars as iPhoto does.
