I didn't mention Lightroom because I don't have it and it didn't cross my mind. 
From what I understand it has a different workflow from Aperture which some 
people love and much prefer to Aperture  ... and some don't. There is a free 
trial of Aperture and Adobe have one for Lightroom ( 
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&loc=en_gb
 ) so you can try each of them out.

The question I posed the other day on here, which remains unanswered, may well 
sway someone's judgement though ... Lightroom (on the Adobe store) is £237.60. 
If Aperture 3 on the Mac App store is £45 (as it was when the store opened) 
then I suspect that the choice, if an upgrade from iPhoto was seen as 
desirable, would be a 'no brainer'. Unless your wallet is really bulging ... :-)
