Thank you Ambulance, you seem to be updated and reminded daily about quirks
like this!
Dear Ben
Just a couple of private notes as list-admin. His name is Sam, his
business is Mac Ambulance. You're right to think he is updated -- Sam is
one of the most knowledgeable people on any list like this, worldwide.
As far as the list goes, you're new (I assume) so you haven't had a
chance to get used to the culture. Questions tend to be very specific
and focussed. We generally think it's the responsibility of the sender
to make the problem clear and that's partly my emphasis as list-admin --
because I have seen what happens when people don't think through their
question first (it gets very confusing and chaotic). So this is a polite
nudge to keep your questions focussed. Some of what you said *was* (but
a little hard to follow) but questions like this:
Its off to Wufoo for free form implementation then that can be implemented at
least via iWeb widget, by dropping in the php or js code via that, or anyone
know of any sites alike so i dont have to deal with all this perl and cgi ?
are not really any good to anyone. As far as I can tell your question
has been answered by Pat, myself and Sam. It's a bit unclear how much
you know (because, though your message talks about perl and cgi, you
don't seem to know about basic internet protocors like mailto
hyperlinks). Expert questions are absolutely fine -- but they must be
clearly laid out. So do please spend some time asking questions where
no-one has to do any work to answer your question (it should describe
what you want to happen, how you've tried to implement it and what
doesn't work/what you need help on). And though we understand sentiments
like '
That is not less basic? I was hoping to finally get rid of all these older ways
and enjoy a trouble free web site creation with the apple software ;/'
this is not really the place to air them. We can't do anything about it!
My job as list-admin is to nurture and then protect a good culture on
the list. It can be very busy and we have over 200 members. I've seen
big lists fall apart VERY QUICKLY so I am always quick to ask people to
abide by the usual customs before everyone starts asking unspecific
questions and dotting their emails with their stress and annoyance --
that's the best way to destroy a list.
But to answer one of your questions, yes, it sounds as if you should
stick to people like Godaddy if the basic 'starter' mac.com frameworks
are not doing what you need...
