New iMac, we can't get anything to mount on the Firewire. The most reaction we've got is a 'pocket' drive, the only external device we can find with a Firewire 800 port, which shows power but doesn't mount. Attempting (with an 800/400 cable) to mount any other external device does nothing. We've tested the 800/400 combination, and the 800/800, on other Macs, and so we know both the cables and the devices are good.

Unfortunately a new member of staff bought the device direct from Apple, which we normally avoid, instead of from a local supplier; it's only a month old but it's going to be a bore to get it fixed. Any top tips for things we can try first, since I think it's as likely to be software as hardware?

TIA,

Ben
