Although I don't own an iPad, I use one of 3's iPad pay as you go sims in one of their USB dongles for wiring images/general web/email from my MacBook Pro. I have to say the connectivity and speed of the 3 data network is a vast improvement from my Vodafone data connection that I had used for 4 years previously and was a much improved deal in terms of bang for the proverbial.
