All,

This is part rant and part plea for A4 printer suggestions.

I went in to PC World in Hove today to buy some ink for my Canon Pixma 4200
printer. It only actually needs one colour replaced but I thought I may as well
buy a full set 'cause I know I have no spares and if I came home with just one,
sods law would probably ensure that another would run out almost immediately.

As ever I was utterly appalled that buying full set of ink (£70) would cost
considerably more than buying a new printer, and I came close to indulging in a
childish rant at member of PC World staff. Now I know there's always the
"compatible ink" route, or buying online from Amazon, but the former I've tried
and it's never been a success (obviously my understanding of the term
"compatible" is a bit old fashioned), and the latter isn't really all that much
cheaper (a new printer would still be cheaper).

So anyway, I left PC World steaming and with just criminally one over-priced
ink cartridge, and resolved to buy myself a new printer with the cash I didn't
spend. So who can recommend an A4 printer (printer/scanner would be nice)
that's reliable, good enough for general non-critical work, and won't send my
blood pressure through the roof (and cash reserves through the floor) when the
ink runs out?

Phil

PS. Anybody want a perfectly good Canon Pixma 4200 printer? It's got a new cyan
cartridge in it but some of the others might be close to empty – after which it
effectively becomes a worthless piece of junk.
