A few things might deter me from moving early ...
1) I think Rosetta's gone now? Maybe Sam can confirm? That means no support for PPC apps and I still have one or two that I haven't replaced with something better.
2) Something I read indicates it won't support the earliest MacBook Pro machines, because they have the Core Duo and not the Core 2 Duo processor. I thought maybe it might just run slower, but I now suspect its because Core Duo doesn't support 64-bit. Maybe Sam can confirm that too?
3) Does the auto-save, auto-version and saving state all rely on apps being updated to support these new Lion features?
4) iCloud does seem to have some space limitations. I use Backblaze for cloud backups and have no limitations at all, for just $50 a year.

Having said all those things, I expect we'll move our other Apple computers within a few months. And maybe its time my early MacBookPro was 'moved on' and I might replace it with an 'Air' depending what comes out in (probably) the next few weeks.

I think that, looking over the new features, you'd be at a significant disadvantage not upgrading even if you're happy with the way Leopard/Snow Leopard works.

Auto-saving of your documents, auto-versioning as well, will really help. Apple Mail looks particularly good with the new features. Apps save their state automatically, so you can restart to exactly where you left off. Lion has a built-in utility partition so you can reinstall/restore your Mac without the need for a disc.

Aside from the new stuff, some new features of the iCloud system won't run on Snow Leopard or earlier.

You can even use Lion to migrate from a PC now, it'll cost me money in support time but ultimately it's a great feature for the user.

And most importantly, Lion's now available in Arabic, Czech, Turkish & Hungarian.
