Hi Brian If you've got a Time Machine backup that's up to date, that's fine, just boot from your OS X installer DVD and select "Restore from Time Machine Backup" from the Utilities menu.
A cloned drive is a good method of providing an easy snapshot to restore your drive to. Time Machine doesn't backup certain system files but a full clone will get everything. I doubt you'll have much of a problem with Parallels and Lion, as per Chris Webb's last email.
