I'd also suggest having a look inside IF you know what you're doing. I had a Macbook do this and it turned out it was choked with dust.

It's probably linked to high CPU. Runing anything intensive (like Flash?) Just leaving the Guardian homepage open can ramp CPU up to 97%...
