Thanks Viginia,
I can't figure out what has gone wrong. I have found a work around by slightly 
changing events in Outlook it forces iCal to sync that event. Very laborious as 
I have to go back through my diary so I have a record on my iphone again. If 
only I could find a way to make it Sync all my events at once!
