Agree that she needs FW800 to FW400, it can either be an adaptor plug on the
end of a FW400 cable or a single cable with FW400 plug one end and FW800
plug on the other end.

Subject: [sussex_mug] Transfer account from old iMac to a new one

Afternoon all.

The mother in law is going to order a new iMac today, now that Lion is out.
She currently has an old, white, 17" iMac.

Now I know transferring her account over is as simple as running the
migration assistant with the old machine in Target disk mode, but what cable
would be required? The new iMac has a FW 800 port on it, but the old one
only has a FW 400 port.

I know Apple sells a 800 - 400 converter (#1) but would you use a standard
FW 400 cable from the old iMac, into this converter and then into the new
iMac?

I need to make sure she orders the correct cabling as she is in the States
and I will be talking her through this over the phone.

TIA
