SMb command will connect to my newest drive but fails on the older drive.
Same result as before
I assumed this was Samba but cannot find the open source Samba.I believe that 
Apple has replaced SAMBA with its own tools because the
Samba team has moved the licence to GPLv3 licence.
Any other ideas?

  Apple deemed the older AFP authentication methods insecure so many NAS drives 
out there are incompatible. Have you tried connecting with SMB? Go to the Go 
menu > Connect to Server > smb://<ip address or hostname here>
