Morning all,

I have been having a lot of problems with my wife's 27" iMac over the last
few days. It started running really slowly and locking up for 5-10 mins at a
time and when performing a restart there was always a progress bar
underneath the Apple logo which I assume means it is running a fsck in the
background??

Logging into single user mode and running an fsck -fy brought back an error
with the file com.apple.addressbook.abd.plist - something about a sibling
link not being able to be repaired. A few restarts and a few more fsck -fy
later and it comes back clean.

But the machine is still locking up. Tried running spinrite on it
but apparently it won't work with the iMacs due to the way the EFI talks to
the disks.

So, the question is, is there any software for the Mac that people trust to
do disk repairs or failing that, where is the best place locally to get the
drive replaced (Crawley area). There is an iStore (Apple reseller) near us
but I have no experience of how good they are at repairing stuff.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Thanks,
