Morning all

Thinking about "investing" (ahem) in an iPad3 when possible but in
something of a quandry about which type, wifi or 3G. It will likely be
used out and about and there is no doubt that an always on connection would
be to my advantage, given how I intend to be using it.

However, I already have an iPhone with a 3 all-you-can-eat data package and
am quite pleased with the service. I think it unlikely that I will have my
iPad with me but not my phone. I can see no technical reason why I
shouldn't just tether my iPad to my phone. A downside could be power
drainage of both devices I suppose. But this ability might suggest a
wifi-only model would be better.

The alternative position would be to get a 3G iPad and downgrade the
phone/package in due course. Cost upfront has an impact there of course.
However, a 3G iPad has, for example, a GPS chip in it. I'm not sure
whether tethering to a GPS-enabled iPhone would enable me to still use
location services so accurately (though this is for hobbies and the iPad
will mostly be for work).

Not looking for someone to tell me what to do, but curious what people
think, there may be a way of looking at it I haven't considered. Comments
and opinions welcomed.

Thanks and best wishes

Russell
