Hi Phil, Suggest you try connecting to another Mac with ŒTarget Disk Mode¹ using a Firewire cable (restart holding down the ³T² key).
This would enable you to tell if it¹s just the screen that has blown or something more serious. If it is just the screen and you decide to buy a new iMac at least you will be able to wipe the hard disk clean before your dump it.
