Ah 1.14GB free, I thought it was 1.14MB free!

Have you loaded any 3rd party visualizers into iTunes? That can slow it down. 
Also is it doing anything like syncing to an iOS device or encoding tracks?

If iTunes is idling at 99% CPU then there's bound to be an issue. You could try 
redownloading the latest version from the apple website and reinstalling. If 
that doesn't sort it, open Applications > Utilities > Console > email me a page 
of your console logs while iTunes is acting up.
