This was the same for me, too.  I tried to get into it around the time that
HTML 4 came out.  Since then things have moved on and I have less time.

Have you heard of the excellent little programme "HTML Tidy"?  There is a
Mac version, although I have always found the PC version easier to use
unfortunately.  They also do a CSS Tidy:
