Thanks one and all. Of course what I really want is an external SSD drive connected via Thunderbolt but at the moment such things seem horrendously expensive and I was just considering the cheapskate option.
It sounds as though, given Sam's performance stats, I'd be better waiting until Apple's exclusive hold over Thunderbolt SSDs is ended and then maybe we'll get some affordable prices. Thanks again.
