Thanks Macfixer. However, I seem not to have an extended arrow next to the 
printer name, just the up-and-down little arrows. That produces Print and Scan 
Preferences, but no pages option -- and therefore no paper handling selection. 
It's so frustrating. I am used to printing alternate pages when doing several 
pages, but this facility seems to have vanished from my computer.
