I've had loads of crashes with ML compared to any other version for years as did the reviewer on Forbes.com who was then berated by loads of Apple 'fans' for daring to say that ML was anything less than perfect because their own installation was flawless and therefore the guy must be spreading FUD. Sigh. Having said that, it's much better since installing 10.8.1 on my iMac, thought my partner's Macbook Air still seems to have the spinning rainbow wheel far too often for comfort.
Make sure you tell Apple using http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html , other than that I'm not sure what to suggest I'm afraid. Sorry.
