I think that it would be a mistake to make a decision on whether to upgrade 
based on current Maps app. There are alternatives such as Google Maps via a web 
browser if it is important. Absolutely certain that the Maps app will improve - 
after all it isn’t the app itself that is the problem but the cartography data 
that it gets from Apple’s servers that is the cause of the trouble.

Glad to here that the 3GS is less laggy - my daughter will be pleased as she is 
undecided on whether to upgrade.
