I think I'm a little late to the party here but yes, it's an OS X 10.8 thing, not Pages specifically. I've included a screenshot so you know it's not a fantasy:
I'm running Pages 4.2 and OS X 10.8.2 The whole "Document version" and iCloud workflow/integration is way better in Mountain Lion 10.8 than in Lion.
