Have you tried an SMC reset? Battery and power out then hold power
button for 10 seconds?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've given the magsafe socket and the
charger a good blow with a can of compressed air but no good. I have
no idea how to remove / replace a battery, so I've made an
appointment at the Apple store and see if they can check it for me.
Hopefully it will keep going for a few more years yet!

This happens to mine occasionally. One of the following has always
fixed it: cleaning the magsafe socket, turning everything off
including mains socket and starting again after a minute or two,
turning everything off and then taking out battery and putting it
back in again
My white Macbook is at least five years old and still running
perfectly.

Might be worth removing the battery, putting it back in again and
trying. Alternatively, do you know anyone who has a similar Macbook?
You could try their charger or your charger on their Mac.

Hi. I have a white MacBook which I keep on my narrow boat and
only use rarely. But it works. Or did - I visited the boat on
Thursday and plugged the macbook in to charge it up - and the
little light which starts off orange and goes green when charged
didn't light up. I checked that the socket was working by plugging
in a lamp, then plugged the macbook back in and left it for hours.
The charger got hot, but the mac didn't charge up.
Is the problem likely to be the charger? If so, would the Mac
store in Brighton have one? Sadly, Camcom has gone - I'm sure
they'd have had one.
And if not the charger - is there any hope for an ageing
Macbook??!! I use it less since I bought an iPad, but it is still
useful. I don't want to buy a new one... !
Thanks,
Andrew
