Well, I tok the MacBook to the Apple store where I had booked an appointment at
the genius bar. Within minutes the guy I saw had established that a) my charger
didn't charge one of their macbooks and b) one of their chargers DID charge my
MacBook. So - I was GIVEN a new charger which I have charged the macbook with
today and it all works fine. But such amazing service - he said that it was
obvious that the charger (and indeed the macbook) had been looked after and not
thrown about etc but I was amazed and delighted to be given a new charger!

So, result.

Thanks for all the advice etc too.

Andrew
