The 21" screen is just fine in my view. I have the previous model with the
Superdrive and I only use it for ripping CDs and watching DVDs. Given the
availability of the separate superdrive and the increase in broadband speeds
and downloadable video and audio content I don't think that's much of a loss.
The relocation of the SD slot to the rear is misguided I feel - I use the Doxie
scanner which writes to an SD card which needs to be inserted into the iMac to
read it and to be made to continually reach around to the back when the iMac
is already against the wall would be very annoying.

Despite what I said earlier, I think Apple are letting their ideology for
thinness override practicality. Whilst a reduction of size and weight are
clearly relevant factors for a portable computer I see no necessity for it in a
desktop where it's the area of the screen (in an all-in-one anyway) which
determines the space available for locating it, not the bezel width which is
rendered irrelevant due to the depth of the stand! It does admittedly look
smart from the side, but given how much it cost Apple to redesign it to be so
thin it seems to me as though the money could have been better spent.

As for age ... you probably and sensibly in my (probably) equally aged view,
prefer practicality over fashion Pat.

"Price is the most important factor for shoppers when they are deciding which
foods to buy, according to Defra's 2012 Food Statistics Pocketbook. More than
40% of customers said it is the most important factor, with 90% listing it in
their top five."

Cheap products need cheap ingredients ...
