Hi Michael

Is it essential to run the drives on the network? You'll get better performance 
if you use a thunderbolt external drive 
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=630, you can set it up as 
mirrored RAID for better redundancy and daisy chain two drives together if you 
need more storage.

There's also the thunderbolt Drobo 5D, which has space for 5 drives and will 
connect via thunderbolt, it's just quite expensive.
