After me going on about how disappointed I was with the new iPhone, my 4s ist
kapput in protest. I think it's because of water getting in whilst running. I
think the local distributor here in Thailand would swap it for a reffurbed one
on the Apple deal of around £120.

The irony of it is when I come down to it I do quite fancy the new iPhone. Then
I read that the forth coming iPad Mini 2 will have the same camera as the
iPhone, plus retina and other good gubbins.

My thinking now is that I may not bother with the iPhone and just go iPad mini
3/4G model (We have 3G everywhere now and it's very usable).

As I see it the negatives are:

- no local phone number in Thailand. This is only a problem to one person and
it isn't me :) Mind you she says it's never on anyway, so isn't bothered, but I
could just get a little 'burner' for that.
- it might be a bit big for my pocket and for running - anyone use an ipad mini
and run with it?

Positives
- much bigger screen which is good for me as my eyes are Magooish to say the
least
- I really only use Skype for daily comms. I've also been using WhatsApp (does
this work on a cellular iPad Mini?) Are there any other communications apps I
should try? I haven't really used Facetime extensively either.
- I work on the move a lot so the extra space for typing, browsing and such
could be useful
- We've decided to take the plunge and get a 'proper' camera so the one on my
'portable device' isn't as crucial.
- I could just get a Skype number

The new iPad mini will be out before the end of the year according to
Macrumours. Apparently there will be limited availability.

Any thoughts or experiences on using an iPad mini?

Michael
