I’ll have a stab at this. If the apps came from the Mac App Store then updates 
would be free. If not then you’d need to check each software vendor for their 
policy. I’m glad to say that a few non-Mac App Store products I have, seem to 
work just fine with Mavericks. Anyway, I don’t remember having to pay for many 
upgrades when moving from 10.7 to 10.8 so I can’t say that I’ve spent much in 
software upgrading costs over the last couple of years.
