Not quite the same though: that shares it via a weblink (eg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/z7v7jioaq1na26/NSS%20temp.docx). I want them
to be able to click on it in the message and have the file open (or at
least the place in the Finder): no website or www needed).
If you copy the file path and go to Finder, choose Go to Folder... you
can paste a file path in. I want to automate that.
This seems more developed in iOS, ironically, but things like
Devonthink, Mail, Omnifocus and so on all have this implemented. It's
normally accessible under Edit as 'Copy Item Link' (or via drag and
drop)

If you right click on the file there is a Dropbox contextual menu and
the
click can be copied from there.

Dear Smug
Having trained my colleagues to use Dropbox for shared files
(usually,
unfortunately, Word files) we now find ourselves saying "I've amended
the
file at Dropbox/blah folder/2012 Research Projects/blah/blah and
Assessing
in blah/reports/blah/blahsummaryJPD.docx
where blah folder is the shared one. These file paths are getting
longer
all the time...!
I'm thinking it must be possible to make this clickable via a URL
scheme...? We are all using Macs on 10.8 or 9. Anyone know if Finder
has
this (in the way Mail and many others do)? They are using Outlook but
I'm
on Mailmate. I've already written a script to get the path of the
selection
so should be easy to add a URL.
