Hi all,

We have the above printer at home.

History - when I first tried to connect this (on 10.8 I suppose) I had problems
in that the Mac App Store kept telling me that there were updates available for
the printer (I think it was when I would login or startup my iMac but it was
some time ago so I'm not sure). I'd agree to the update, it would tell me that
it would download it from the App Store and then it would say that the software
update was unavailable or could not be found. I think that the printer still
printed though. I kept receiving this message that an update was available, and
then that it couldn't download it because it wasn't available repeatedly until
for some reason it stopped but with the passage of time I now can't remember
why.

However.

We have had the printer connected to my iMac but we wanted to connect it to the
Airport Extreme today so that we could share it. I plugged it in to the
Extreme. Went to System Preferences > Add printer. It found it, said it was
installing some software update and then it was added to my list. Easy peasy.

I then told my partner to do the same thing but when he clicked to add the
shared printer it up came the software install bit and then suddenly we were
back at the "Software update is not available" business again and the upshot is
that he cannot access the printer because it won't install the software on his
MacBook Air. If he goes to Mac App Store there is no software update available.
If you go to the HP site:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4159&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=1146331#N228

... then it tells you to get the software via Mac Software Update!

Any ideas how to get out of this sort of loop?

Thanks for any help.

Stephen
