Thanks Sam, I had enabled 2 factor authentication (and an app-specific password). I disabled it when the problem began and it's still happening with normal passwords. It could be the number of iMap connections. I have 4 - including 1 on the iPad, 2 on my Mac, and one on the iPhone. Is that too many? I can easily lose one of the ones on the Mac if needs be.
